Spring into Action: March Blog

March has brought a fresh wave of energy here at CW Eventing Coaching Academy & Stud. From showjumping debuts to the success of the first event, our team has shown great growth and enthusiasm. We also worked out that this year's foals should be due in around 6 weeks, eeek!! Keep reading for the highlights from recent activities, shoutouts to pupils for their achievements, and more...

Tweseldown Cross-Country Training Day

I took Dolly and Dan to Tweseldown XC Training for the last prep session before our first event. It provided a valuable opportunity to practice skills over a BE course before the first run. The horses performed exceptionally well- Dolly was ace through all of the water combinations with no signs of being scared or wanting to avoid splashing her hooves (you have no idea how happy this makes me). Dan oozed professionalism and knew his job very well, so was just joyful to ride around.

First Showjumping Competition for Our Girls

A special milestone was reached as Florence , Maddi, and Abby each took their horses to their first showjumping competition as partnerships. Florence rode George, who she's been loaning off of Richard for a while since he stepped back from higher competition with me. They took home a 5th Place rosette and it was brilliant to watch them both go so well in their first competition as a partnership. Maddi partnered with her horse Bart, who she's owned for just over 2 months, and did exceptionally well with just a pole. A fantastic start of a special partnership! Abby brought Fred, her ex-racehorse, which was his first competition since leaving racing and he was amazing too.

It was very rewarding to see the girls who work so hard for myself and the business, in action outside of their training and lessons!

Back to Eventing with Moreton, Dolly, and Dan

Our eventing season has officially started!

We're back in full swing with a day at Moreton last weekend with Dolly and Dan. Some excitable dressage tests from both horses, and a navigation error from myself in Dan's test, forgiven because its the first event... Dan had a couple of poles in the SJ but a clear XC. I decided to go slower in the XC phase because I wanted to test the brakes with his current bit and have a confident first run, so picked up a few time,

he did finish 8th though!! Dolly did a wonderful clear round in the SJ, and then also a clear XC with just a couple of time faults to finish 5th! A great foundation laid for the rest of the season ahead.

The next event at Oxstalls will be fun and i'm looking forward to taking my learnings from Moreton and going again! Both horses are in great shape with weekly water treadmill sessions, plenty of hacking, and regular Dressage and SJ training with Joe Roome and Jo Rimmer.

Celebrating Our Riders’ Progress

Every rider in our Coaching Academy is making impressive strides. I am incredibly proud of how much each pupil has improved, showing commitment and passion for their horses. A couple of special mentions go to:

Amelia J has been a tremendous help on Saturdays, supporting the team by taking instructions and learning so quickly and being so reliable. Since joining us, her riding has improved dramatically. Her position is now much more stable, and she rides with increased confidence. Watching her develop has been great, and I look forward to seeing her continue to grow. Welldone Amelia!

Our Beginner Group pupils are progressing so well, moving off the lead rein and gaining independence in the saddle. Alice H deserves special mention too. Starting as a complete beginner last summer, she is now confidently cantering in the Intermediate Groups. Her dedication and hard work is a great example of what consistent practice can achieve. Keep it up!

Teddy is Looking for a New Forever Home

Our lovely two-year-old Oldenburg x Connemara gelding, Teddy, is currently seeking a new forever home. He is a wonderful young horse with great potential. If you or someone you know is interested in the project of a young horse please get in touch. This is a fantastic opportunity to own and train a promising horse, who will bring someone great success one day.

Summer Routine is here AT LAST!

The clocks have changed and summer is near!! Ok, maybe i'm being a little bit optimistic but the horses have moved into their summer routine on Sunday evening and we couldn't be happier. They're all paired up with their best buddy and are spending nights out in the field and coming into the stable for snacks, feeds and snoozes throughout the daytime. This change supports their wellbeing, with limited field time throughout winter due to how wet our land gets, and keeps them fit and happy through the warmer months.

Being out at night in the hot months keeps them in less fly-ridden conditions and means they're in the cool shady stables during the hottest hours of the day. The summer routine also allows horses to relax and enjoy longer hours of natural movement, which benefits their physical and mental health.

Speak Next Month!

The progress and enthusiasm shown by our riders and horses is fantatsic and winter is finally OVER! As we move into the summer months, the focus will be on maintaining fitness, enjoying time outdoors, preparing for upcoming events and continuing our pupils progression in their riding.

If you want to follow our journey or get involved, stay tuned for more updates. There is plenty to look forward to, and the team is ready to spring into action.
